ArtPrize Bench

First year of ArtPrize submission

Division: Woodworking

Date: 2009-09-21

On a whim I decided to make something for the very first year of ArtPrize. I was really into found pieces of wood and designed a bench that was smooth on the sitting side but wild and chaotic on the back and below. The chaos was bordered by two big finely finished frames. The structure was held together with the found pieces. I was lucky and was able to be shown at the B.O.B downtown which is what made my piece heavily viewed. Unfortunately, the outside was not nice to the bench. Some of the pieces where MDF and plywood that swelled in the rain. During the event the bench kind of fell apart. I learned two lessons, don't use manufactured wood pieces and don't have this kind of work outside. I am proud of the work I did and enjoyed the whole experience. I met a lot of people and artists. It was amazing to experience the first year because no one knew what to expect. To may utter shock and amazement I ended up in the top 25 of the whole compatition.
